Dr. Alex Bankhead
DDS, Ms
Dr. Bankhead is currently retired. Dr. Bankhead was born and raised in Utah and comes from a family of dentists. After graduating from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1994, where he served as the Class President for four years, Dr. Bankhead entered the three year Periodontal Residency at the University of Nebraksa in Lincoln. There he obtained his Certificate of Specialization in Periodontology and Master of Science Degree. His Master's Degree Thesis was on Bone Regeneration in Humans. At that time, his study was one of the first to show histological evidence on how bone regeneration works in human beings.
Dr. Bankhead served on the faculty of Dr. Gordon Christensen's prestigious Practical Clinical Courses (PCC) in Provo, Utah for nearly 10 years. As a faculty member of PCC he taught dentists from around the world the surgical techniques utilized in Modern Periodontics and Dental Implantology. Dr. Bankhead has produced several videos demonstrating various periodontal and implant surgical procedures.
When not working, Dr. Bankhead enjoys family time, skiing, cycling, and riding his motorcycle anywhere the open road takes him. Additionally, he is an avid fan of the Utah Jazz Professional Basketball Team.
Dr. Bankhead furthered his education by earning his MBA from Louisiana State University in 2023.
David Sandak
Periodontist
Dr. Sandak graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colgate University and received his dental degree from SUNY at Stony Brook where he graduated top of his class. After completing his degree at Boston University’s distinguished Department of Periodontics, Dr. Sandak opened his Periodontics and Implant Dentistry practice in New York’s Westchester County, where he practiced for 28 years, was a dental community leader, President of his local White Plains Dental Society, and headed numerous study groups over a 28 year career. In 1998 he formed a dental mission that annually travelled to Jamaica to perform restorative and surgical dental relief to a remote yet deserving population.
His passion for the mountains, his quest for a new adventure and his 50-year love for Utah has brought him to the Greater Salt Lake and Utah County areas where he and his family hope to settle in and integrate with the community. He humbly joins Utah Valley Periodontics & Dental Implants, echoing their passion and commitment for excellent dentistry and a desire to help his patients in their goal of achieving health and dental success.
David is passionate about his commitment to continuing dental education and bringing advances in dental procedures and technology to his patients. When he is not working, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and coaching his son’s lacrosse team.

I’ve worked at Utah Valley Periodontics & Dental Implants for 25 years. I started as the lead surgical assistant. When I’m not at work I enjoy cooking, crafting and camping with my husband and two daughters.
