Your periodontists

Dr. Alex Bankhead

DDS, MS · Periodontist

Dr. Bankhead, a Utah native, comes from a family of dentists. After graduating from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1994, he entered the three-year periodontal residency at the University of Nebraska, where he obtained his Certificate of Specialization in Periodontology and a Master of Science degree. His master's research was on human bone regeneration — at the time, one of the first studies to demonstrate histological evidence of bone regeneration in humans. He furthered his education by earning an MBA from Louisiana State University in 2023.

Dr. Bankhead served on the faculty of Dr. Gordon Christensen's prestigious Practical Clinical Courses in Provo, Utah for 10 years. As a faculty member he taught dentists from around the world the surgical techniques used in modern periodontics and dental implantology, and he has produced several videos demonstrating periodontal and implant surgical procedures.

When not working, Dr. Bankhead enjoys family time, traveling with his wife, and time spent at their cabin.

Dr. David Sandak

Periodontist

Dr. Sandak graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University and received his dental degree from SUNY at Stony Brook, where he graduated top of his class. After completing his degree at Boston University's distinguished Department of Periodontics, he opened his periodontics and implant dentistry practice in New York's Westchester County, where he practised for 28 years. He was a dental community leader, President of his local White Plains Dental Society, and headed numerous study groups over that career. In 1998 he formed a dental mission that travelled annually to Jamaica to perform restorative and surgical dental relief for a remote yet deserving population.

His passion for the mountains, his quest for a new adventure and his 50-year love for Utah brought him to the Greater Salt Lake and Utah County areas, where he and his family hope to settle in and integrate with the community. He humbly joins Utah Valley Periodontics & Dental Implants, echoing their passion and commitment for excellent dentistry and a desire to help his patients achieve health and dental success.

David is passionate about his commitment to continuing dental education and bringing advances in dental procedures and technology to his patients. When he is not working he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and coaching his son's lacrosse team.

Treatment Coordinator

I've worked at Utah Valley Periodontics & Dental Implants for 25 years. I started as the lead surgical assistant, and for the past 15 years I have been helping patients with all of their financial, medical and dental insurance questions. I am happy to assist you with any financial or procedural questions you have. When I'm not at the office you can find me enjoying the outdoors with my husband and two kids.

Kandra Phipps

Surgical Assistant

I have been in the dental field for over 20 years, and with Utah Valley Periodontics & Dental Implants for 8 of them. I am a highly trained medical and surgical assistant, and I take pride in taking care of all my patients' needs — patients appreciate my gentle and compassionate bedside manner. When I'm not at work I enjoy cooking, crafting and camping with my husband and two daughters.

I am currently in the pre-dental program at UVU studying biology. I have a passion for learning, especially about teeth. I love fly fishing, exercising, the outdoors, and traveling to see new places with my wife.

Sabrina

Hygienist

I love to make people smile, which is why I wanted to become a hygienist. I have been in the dental field since 2017 and have loved meeting everyone who came for their hygiene appointment. I pride myself on providing a gentle touch when you get your teeth cleaned, and leaving you with quality care you can smile about. Outside of work you will find me with my husband mountain biking, hiking, paddleboarding, or doing any outdoor activity we can find.

With over six years of experience as a periodontal assistant, I decided to take my love for patient care further and became a dental hygienist. I enjoy educating patients on the science behind oral health and helping make improvements in their smiles. When I'm not in the office I like to travel with my husband and family — especially to Europe — run, cook, read a good love story, or watch a movie.
